The story behind the rebrand:
Harbor Sauna hosted its first community session on January 11th last year at Montrose Harbor. It took a couple of months of heavy lifting to find a groove, then city permitting issues forced a pivot - a blessing in disguise.
It gave me the space to grow beyond what I initially imagined was possible. During that year, I completed training in:
Nordic cycle safety
Aufguss rituals & towel waving
Coaching in applied neurology & somatics
Yoga teaching
The common denominator is nervous system health and co-regulation, which is what I’d love to sprinkle into these newsletters along with the occasional business update.
Why ‘Harbor & Voyage’?
Harbor Thermaculture was born from a desire to build kinship and expand sauna culture in Chicago, after my personal healing journey was transformed through sauna. Over the past year, Harbor & Voyage became the metaphor for why I do this work.
The Harbor is the place you return to for safety, and that is found within you. The Harbor is about regulating the nervous system, accessing deeper layers of yourself, and fostering presence.
The Voyage is the adventure from that resonant place through the world in a more sovereign and authentic way, feeling more connected to others along your journey.
Thank you for being a part of this community and journeying with me.
Warmly,
Maria
